Basic Nutrients in Food That You Need To Be Healthy
Off course you eat because you get hungry, but there are many nutrients that can be found from some types of food that the body is in need of. There are four major components in foods that are required by the body in order to be and stay healthy. These nutrients are as follow: Minerals, carbohydrates, fats, and vitamins. Now that you know the four required nutrients needed in the body to be healthy, what would be your response if I was to ask you if you are eating healthy? Hopefully it would not be too close to the negative side.
Minerals and vitamins
Vitamins are substances made by plants and animals. And minerals are inorganic, meaning that they come directly from earth.
Vitamin C is found in plants and fruits. Highest sources of vitamin C are green peppers, strawberries, broccoli, citrus fruits and juices, and sweet and white potatoes including green leafy vegetables. Individuals with deficiency of this vitamin, vitamin C, can have all of these following health problems: Possible weight gain, decrease ability to fight infection, anemia, dry and splitting hair, gingivitis, bleeding gums, rough dry skin, easy bruising, nosebleeds, decrease wound healing rate, and swollen painful joints.
Scurvy is caused by severe deficiency of vitamin C. Scurvy can causes severe symptoms and even death. This disease is mostly seen in older individuals, alcoholics, and those who don’t eat fruits and vegetables. Anorexia can also be a cause of scurvy.
Vitamin B12 is needed in the body to be healthy by maintaining a normal nervous system and also to produce blood cells. Consumers would get this vitamin from products taken or made from animals; example, eggs, cheese, and meat just to name a few.
Since vitamin B12 is required to maintain a normal nervous system and to produce blood cells, deficiency of it will cause nervous system damage if the vitamin is not being supplied somehow.
Another health problem associated to it is megaloblastic anemia, which could also be caused by folic acid deficiency.
There are several other vitamins B and the body needs each one of them for normal functioning. The rest of the vitamins B are thiamine, riboflavin, niacin, pantothenic acid, biotin, and vitamin B-6.
Carbohydrates are very important because they are used to produce energy. Without carbohydrates or carbs in the body we would not be able to do anything. That’s how important these nutrients are to us. Where can we get our carbohydrates from? They can be found in fruits, milk, cereal, and many other grains.
Although carbohydrates are good, there are complex carbohydrates which are not too good because they take longer to break down into glucose.
Overweight is a health issue that is affecting the life of many people. Being overweight is having too much fat in the body, but we do need fats because there are certain fatty acids that our body can’t produce, which we can produce from our body fats.
To conclude, we should eat a well balanced diet everyday in order to be healthy and stay healthy. If you don’t know how to have a balanced diet, the food pyramid is a great example. If you don’t feed yourself well, no one will do it for you.
